Introduction
More than 300 million people in 55 countries across five continents speak French. French is the language of diplomacy, international relations, and development either as a working or official language (eg. the UN, the EU, NATO, UNESCO, the International Red Cross, to name a few). The French program at CSU LB offers students a wide variety of degree options, including a Certificate in French Language Proficiency as well as the Minor, the BA and the Master of Arts in French and Francophone Studies. The BA in French and Francophone studies also offers an interdisciplinary option for students who want to broaden their academic and professional portfolio while double-majoring in a related discipline. Students with one or two semesters of French language courses are well prepared to explore numerous short- and long-term study abroad options that we support with a variety of generous scholarships. In addition, the Dept. of RGRLL also offers the Single Subject Credential in French. All degree options can be completed separately as well as built upon incrementally throughout a student’s academic career at CSULB.
