This is an interdisciplinary program sponsored by the School of Art and Biological Sciences department. Students may apply to pursue the Biomedical Art Certificate after completion of the Admission Requirements, and a portfolio review; students apply for certifcation after completion of all the Certificate Units. This may be concurrent with earning a baccalaureate degree or after graduation.

Admission Requirements

A major in art or biological or related natural sciences;
A 2.75 overall GPA and 3.25 in the major:

Note(s): Biology majors may be allowed to waive some of the Admission Requirements in art through a preliminary portfolio submission process. Some BIOL and CHEM Admission Requirements may be waived for Art majors by Biological Sciences Advisor approval.

Take one of the following

ART 149 - Foundation Computer Art (3 units)
ART 382 - Production for Fine Art (3 units)

Take all of the following:

ART 130 - Foundation Two-Dimensional (3 units)
ART 181 - Foundation Drawing (3 units)
ART 184 - Foundation Life Drawing (3 units)
ART 271 - Introduction to Rendering (3 units)
BIOL 211 - Introduction to Evolution and Diversity (5 units)
CHEM 111A - General Chemistry (5 units)
OR
CHEM 112A - Advanced General Chemistry (5 units)
AND
CHEM 111B - General Chemistry (5 units)
OR
CHEM 112B - Advanced General Chemistry (5 units)

Certificate Requirements (30 units)

ART 372 - Anatomy for Artists (3 units)
ART 374A - Biomedical Rendering (3 units)
ART 374B - Biomedical Illustration (3 units)
ART 426 - Computer Animation 1 (3 units)
BIOL 207 - Human Physiology (4 units)
BIOL 208 - Human Anatomy (4 units)
BIOL 212 - Introduction to Cell and Molecular Biology (4 units)
