UTEACH Multiple Subject Credential Program Pathway


The Urban Teacher Academy (UTEACH) pathway is a unique opportunity for students to combine pedagogy and practice in a personalized credential program designed to fully prepare future teachers in a hands-on supportive school setting. The UTEACH pathway is comprised of the same 40 units as the Traditional MSCP pathway however, the course sequence is structured differently and it is a cohort program. The UTEACH pathway begin only in the Fall semester. Candidates must successfully complete the prerequisite courses prior to beginning UTEACH in the fall. In the UTEACH pathway candidates’ student teach half the day four days a week and the full day one day a week while taking the pedagogy courses in the afternoon during both the fall and spring semester. The pedagogy courses are offered off campus at a partner elementary school.

Additional Requirements for UTEACH Bilingual Authorization (BILA)


Candidates wishing to pursue the Bilingual Authorization in addition to UTEACH should refer to the BILA Pathway below for pedagogy and culture emphasis requirements.

These additional requirements must be completed along with prerequisite and corequisite courses, prior to beginning pedagogy and student teaching coursework. For candidates completing the UTEACH BILA Pathway, one of their student teaching semesters will be in a bilingual setting. Candidates will enroll in EDEL 482E (Asian Language BILA) or EDEL 428F (Spanish Language BILA) for one semester and EDEL 482D for one semester.
