Physics, B.S. + Physics (General Option), M.S.


Students in the Beach EDGE Physics (General) program will complete the requirements for both the Bachelor’s and Master’s in Physics (general).

Eligibility and Admissions to Physics Beach EDGE Program

Minimum Admissions Requirements

  1. Be a matriculated undergraduate student at CSULB in Physics B.S.
  2. Have completed 60 units.
  3. Be enrolled in or completed 9 discipline-specific upper-division units in residence.
  4. Have a minimum CSULB GPA of 3.0 or consent of graduate advisor in Physics.

A student can apply based on an anticipated grade, but in that case, admissions decisions will be delayed until the semester is over, and the final GPA can be verified.

Application Requirements

  1. Beach EDGE Application Form (PDF)
  2. A Statement of Purpose
  3. CSULB unoffcial transcripts
  4. Written recommendation from a CSULB Physics tenured/tenure-track faculty (ideally the applicant’s research advisor)

Deadlines to Apply

  • October 15th (for potential enrollment beginning in the upcoming spring semester)
  • March 15th (for potential enrollment beginning in the upcoming fall semester)

Double-Counting of Courses

Beach EDGE students in Physics may double-count 12 units of the following:

Note: PHYS 445/545, 422/522 and 446/546 are double-numbered courses, BeachEDGE students will sign up for the graduate sections: PHYS 545, 522 or 546.
