Biochemistry, B.S. + M.S.


Students in the Beach EDGE Biochemistry program will complete the requirements for both the Bachelor’s and Master’s in Biochemistry.

Admissions Process

Submit an application. Application package will include:

  • The Beach edge application form
  • Personal statement
  • Unofficial transcript
  • One letter of recommendation from undergraduate research advisor that will be uploaded (or emailed) directly by the letter writer. The letter must include a statement indicating the faculty’s willingness to continue research advising and support your transition from undergraduate to master’s degree.

Upon receipt of completed application package, two faculty members (the undergraduate and the graduate advisor) will review applications, render decisions, notify the applicants within 30 calendar days of receipt of the complete application package, and when applicable, inform
Enrollment Services via the Advisor Request System.

The selection criteria will include:

  • GPA major: 3.0
  • Overall GPA: 3.25
  • Strength of the letter of recommendation from undergraduate research advisor
  • Strength of the personal statement

Program Requirements

Biochemistry Beach EDGE students may select from the list below to double-count between Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. Students should consult with an advisor if questions arise. 

CHEM 541 - Biochemistry Core for Graduate Study (3 units)  

CHEM 697 - Directed Research (1-3 units)
