Introduction

CSULB houses the premier Italian program in the California State University system, with courses that open the doors to multilingual competency and intercultural expertise. By learning about Italy, a country that has the most UNESCO world heritage sites and attracts the most students to study abroad programs in continental Europe, you will acquire a solid foundation that lends itself to interdisciplinary pursuits. Italian makes an excellent double major or minor with any other field. Are you a Spanish speaker or did you study Spanish in high school? Become multilingual in our Italian for Spanish Speakers program. Interested in study abroad? We have several options, from year- or semester-long programs in Florence or Venice, to our famed summer program in Recanati, a jewel of the Italian Peninsula. We also offer courses in Italian American Studies, highlighting one of the most important waves of immigration in the history of the United States. Our program offers several pathways to certificate and degree achievement: A Certificate in Professional Competence in Italian Language; a Minor in Italian Studies; the Bachelor of Arts and the Master of Arts degrees in Italian Studies, as well as the Single Subject Teaching Credential in Italian. Our program offers a number of scholarship opportunities through the generosity of our donors and the George L. Graziadio Center, which organizes lectures, cultural events, and workshops that connect our students with the many facets of Italian Studies that can lead to future careers.
