C E 446 - Geotechnical Walls and Slopes in Heavy Civil Engineering (3 units)
Prerequisite: C E 345 with a grade of “C” or better. Design and problem solving for retaining walls and slope stability in Heavy Civil projects. Theory of earth pressures behind structures utilizing soil mechanics theory. Theory of slope stability, including shear strength, design charts, and limit equilibrium analysis.
Letter grade only (A-F). (Lecture-Problems 3 hours). Graduate students required to do additional readings and write a research term paper to deal with current topics in geotechnical engineering.
