Poetics, the study of poetry, includes the examination of theory and the art of creation. Black poetics, as an Afrocentric endeavor, centers Black culture in the analysis of the foundations, traditions, experiences, initiatives, and worldview of Black people through the study of oral and written traditions. Major themes to be explored include Black poetics as social barometer, as resistance, as protest and as representations of race, reality, identity, gender, and sexuality.
Both grading options. Not repeatable for credit.
