CRJU 451 - Media, Crime, and the Criminal Justice System

Prerequisite(s): CRJU 101; CRJU 300.
Investigates the relationship between media, crime, and the criminal justice system through an analysis of various media sources, including popular media, news media, social media, podcasts, and music. Examines the effect of media on perceptions of crime, criminality, victimhood, race, immigration status, gender, sexuality, substance use, and religion. Further explores the impact of media on the criminal justice system’s institutions, actors, and related crime policies.
