GEOG 473 - Remote Sensing for Environment and Society

Prerequisites: GEOG 280  or GEOG 481  recommended.

 
Introduction to the principles and applications of remote sensing for studying environmental, social, and socio-environmental systems. Students learn the fundamentals of the electromagnetic spectrum, energy-matter interactions, and sensor technologies, alongside methods for acquiring, processing, and interpreting aerial and satellite imagery. Applications emphasized may include vegetation dynamics, urban environments, human conflict, and other challenges at the intersection of environment and society. Hands-on labs highlight programming platforms for data analysis and visualization.
