Kinesiology, Physical Education - Teacher Education Option, B.S.

This degree is approved for distance education by the WSCUC.

Students pursuing the Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology must complete the course requirements and the physical fitness proficiency of each Option. Students may select their area of specialization from the options.

The Physical Education-Teacher Education (PETE) option places emphasis on teaching public school Physical Education (PE) to students with and without disabilities in preschool through grade 12 and includes concentrations in Adapted Physical Education (APE) and Physical Education K-12 (PE K-12). Prospective students should consult with the department’s Single Subject Physical Education Advisor and/or Adapted Physical Education Advisor early to plan their program.

Degree Progress for Pre-Kinesiology Majors

Pre-Kinesiology Physical Education-Teacher Education majors must complete the following requirements within four semesters of being admitted to the university.. At the end of the four semesters, students who have not met the requirements must declare another major. At the end of the second semester, pre-Kinesiology students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 in the following courses:

  • Oral Communication in English (General Education Category A1)
  • Written Communication in English (General Education Category A2)
  • Critical Thinking (General Education Category A3)
  • Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning* (General Education Category B4)
  • PSY 100 (Please note, this course is a Major Specific Requirement for transfer students prior to the 2023-24 academic year)

*If the Kinesiology option requires a specific Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning course to be completed, students must have this course completed at the end of the second semester with a grade of “C” or better.

At the end of the fourth semester, pre-Kinesiology Physical Education-Teacher Education students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (see Major Specific Criteria). At the end of the fourth semester, Pre-Kinesiology students must be eligible to be fully declared into the intended option within Kinesiology.

Degree Note


Each major course and prerequisite course must be completed with a grade of “C” or better. A course in which a grade lower than a “C” is received must be retaken and successfully completed prior to enrolling in any other course for which it is a prerequisite.
