Los Angeles Studies Certificate

The University Honors Program offers a certificate in Los Angeles Studies to honors students who wish to complete their honors and general education requirements through a focused interdisciplinary study of our local area that also develops an ethics of care. The certificate includes an exploration of cultural products and performances in the greater Los Angeles region (UHP 101), issues of sustainability and technology related to our resources, biodiversity, climate and public health (UHP 201), interdisciplinary topics, problems, or issues with a view towards integration of the areas of study involved in lower-division courses (UHP 300), identification and critical analysis of current problems in selected areas (UHP 490), governing structures, demographics, and policies through service-learning (UHP 301), and urban history and theory from the 18th century to the present (UHP 401). The certificate is open to Honors Students from any major who apply, meet the 3.5 GPA requirement, and are accepted into the honors program as incoming new 1st year or transfer students as well as current students.
