Applied Statistics, B.S.

This degree is approved for distance education by the WSCUC.

This degree program provides a foundation in statistical methods. The courses required ensure that the student understands how the techniques are mathematically derived and how they are applied. Statistical analysis is an essential part of any scientific investigation and is a vital tool in monitoring the quality of products and services, and forecasting.

Requirements

Lower Division:

Take all the following courses:

MATH 122 - Calculus I (4 units)
For MATH 122, a “C” or better is required; see the MSDR listing for details.
MATH 123 - Calculus II (4 units)
For MATH 123, a “C” or better is required; see the MSDR listing for details.
MATH 224 - Calculus III (4 units)
MATH 247 - Introduction to Linear Algebra (3 units)
CECS 174 - Introduction to Programming and Problem Solving (3 units)

Upper Division:

Take the following course:

ENGL 317 - Professional and Technical Writing (3 units)

Take all of the following courses (21 units):

MATH 380 - Probability and Statistics (3 units)
STAT 381 - Mathematical Statistics (3 units)
STAT 410 - Applied Regression Analysis (3 units)
STAT 450 - Applied Multivariate Statistical Analysis (3 units)
STAT 471 - Introduction to R Programming (3 units)
STAT 473 - Statistical Machine Learning (3 units)
STAT 475 - Data Analysis with SAS (3 units)

Take an additional 12 units of MATH or STAT elective courses:

At most 6 units of elective courses may be MATH courses. Counted as electives are MATH 233 and any 300- or 400-level MATH courses except MATH 303, MATH 304, MATH 309, MATH 370A, MATH 370B, or MATH 409.

At least 6 units of STAT courses should be from the following list:
