Requirements

The major consists of 40-41 units distributed as follows:

Lower Division Core:

Complete each of the following courses with a grade of “C” or better:

ECON 100 - Principles of Macroeconomics (3 units)
ECON 101 - Principles of Microeconomics (3 units)

Note(s):

Students with upper division standing declaring business economics as a major may substitute ECON 300 for ECON 100 and ECON 101 .

Complete the following course:

ACCT 201 - Elementary Financial Accounting (3 units)

Complete one of the following courses with a grade of “C” or better:

MATH 115 - Calculus for Business (3 units)
MATH 119A - Survey of Calculus I (3 units)
MATH 122 - Calculus I (4 units)

Upper Division Core:

Complete each of the following courses with grades of “C” or better:

ECON 310 - Microeconomic Theory (3 units)
or
ECON 333 - Managerial Economics (3 units)
and
ECON 311 - Macroeconomic Theory (3 units)
ECON 380 - Economic Statistics (4 units)

Note:

Students declaring Business Economics as a major may substitute ECON 333 for ECON 310 .

Upper Division Electives:

Complete six additional upper-division courses in Economics, of which at least one must be at the 400 level. ECON 300 , ECON 310 , ECON 333 , ECON 406 , ECON 495 , ECON 499, and C/LA 492 may not be taken to meet elective requirements.
Up to three units of C/LA 492 and ECON 406 may be used in place of a 300-level Economics course.

The following information applies only to students with a declared minor.

Students who have declared a minor in one of the following programs may use one of its courses listed below in place of a 300-level Economics elective course:

Minor in Finance: FIN 300 , FIN 350
Minor in Management Information Systems: I S 300 , I S 340 , I S 380
Minor in International Business: IB 300
Minor in Human Resource Management: HRM 360 , HRM 361
Minor in Entrepreneurship: MGMT 300 , MGMT 421
Minor in Marketing: MKTG 300

Note:

All courses used to satisfy Business Economics degree requirements must be taken for a letter grade. Courses used to satisfy degree requirements for the B.A. in Business Economics may not, at the same time, be used to also satisfy degree requirements for the B.A. in Economics or the B.A. in Economics Option in Mathematical Economics and Economic Theory.
