HIST 487 - Madness, Mental Health, and Psychiatry in America (3 units)
Prerequisite: GE Foundation requirements; upper division status. Examines the history of madness and its treatment in America from the colonial period to the present. Topics include the shift from religious to secular understandings, the rise of asylums, the professionalization of psychiatry, and media representations.
Letter grade only (A-F). May be repeated to a maximum of 3 units in different semesters.
